KEK-EF group

Research

The EF group is studying elementary particles that governed the early universe after the Big Bang through experiments using the Energy Frontier Accelerator. From the searches for new undiscovered particles and the precise measurement of the Higgs boson, we are challenging various problems of elementary particles and the universe, such as a unified understanding of the electromagnetic force, weak force, strong force, and gravity, the identity of dark matter, and the mystery of the mass and generational structure of elementary particles.

For this purpose, the KEK-EF group is conducting the following two studies.

  1. Physics analysis and detector operation of the world's highest energy proton-proton collider experiment; LHC/ATLAS experiment, and detector development and construction for the high-luminosity LHC/ATLAS experiment
In the international collaboration of about 3,000 people, for physics analysis, we explore new physics beyond the standard model of particle physics through direct searches for new particles, such as supersymmetric particles, and through precise measurements of the properties of the Higgs boson, top quarks and so on. We play leading roles in developing, constructing and operating inner tracking detectors using semiconductor detectors, muon trigger detectors and high-speed trigger electronics. For more information, please visit this website.

  2. Physics and detector R&D for future energy frontier accelerator experiments such as the International Linear Collider (ILC) project
We are studying physics analysis and detector concepts in the ILC experiment using detector simulations (see more details here). In addition, we are developing semiconductor detectors, electronics, AI/deep learning applications to collider physics, etc., to introduce them to future experiments such as the ILC.

Join us and enjoy energy frontier experiments!
